Grants, Loans and Employment

Grants

  • CUA Need-Based Tuition Grants: Eligibility is determined based on financial need as indicated by the FAFSA in conjunction with CUA institutional methodology. Amounts vary.
  • Federal Pell Grants: Eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Education based on student financial need as indicated by the FAFSA. Amounts vary.
  • Federal SEOG Grants: Eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Education based on student financial need as indicated by the FAFSA. Students who receive Federal Pell Grants are given priority for an SEOG Grant. Since funding for this program is limited, awards are made to full-time, eligible students who apply early. Amounts vary.
  • State Grants: Contact your state scholarship administration.

Loans

  • Federal Stafford Loans: Low-interest loans from the U.S. Department of Education. Federal Stafford Loan eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Education based on student financial need as indicated by the FAFSA. Amounts are as follows; $3,500 for freshman, $4,500 for sophomores, $5,500 for juniors and seniors.
  • Federal Perkins Loans: Low interest loans from the U.S. Department of Education. Federal Stafford Loan eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Education based on student financial need as indicated by the FAFSA. Since funding for this program is limited, awards are made to full-time, eligible students who apply early. Amounts vary.
  • Federal Parent PLUS Loans: Parents may apply for a Federal PLUS Loan to meet education costs. Approval requires a credit check. Loans can be made up to the entire cost of attendance.
  • Commercial (Alternative/Private) Loans: Private loans, also known as Alternative Loans, help bridge the gap between the actual cost of education and the limited amount the government allows students to borrow from federal loan programs. Private lenders offer private loans; there are no federal forms to complete. Loan limits and terms vary by lender.

Employment/Work Programs

  • Federal Work Study: This program gives you the opportunity to earn money by working part-time during the school year. Federal Work-Study eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Education based on student financial need as indicated by the FAFSA. Since funding for this program is limited, awards are made to full-time, eligible students who apply early. Amounts vary. Please note, non work-study employment opportunities are available to students who are not offered Federal Work-Study.
