OUR
MISSION
As
the national university of the Roman Catholic Church in the
United States, The Catholic University of America enjoys a
unique and privileged place among American Catholic institutions
of higher learning. Established by the nation's bishops and
approved by Pope Leo XIII in 1887, The Catholic University
of America was thought to be the only Catholic institution
dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through research,
in the model of the great German universities of the nineteenth
century. These two great ideas, education and religion, converged
to create a university that reaches out in service to the
Church and to the nation. Our mission is so compelling that
we attract leading scholars and gifted students from all fields
- and of all faiths - to join in this great quest. We are
a community of research, teaching, learning and service, dedicated
to confronting the great problems of culture and society.
Ultimately,
a university experience will be what a student makes of it.
Students have the opportunity at The Catholic University of
America to have a unique campus experience. Our history and
heritage are very important to the students. This ideal is
what sets us apart from other university communities. The
Catholic University of America welcomes students of all faiths,
ethnicities and backgrounds and recognizes that diversity
is essential to a modern experience in higher education. At
The Catholic University of America there is a spiritual dimension
to campus life that can enhance and enrich your university
experience.
